Voters, local, statewide, and national, made their party choices about future leaders Tuesday night on the 2010 Primary Election.

On a local level, the position for County Commissioner (Republican), Position 2, has been a very competitive race. With incumbent Lynn Lundquist, defending his position against challengers Seth Crawford, and Don Fox, as of 8:45 p.m. Crawford was ahead by a considerable amount of votes. He had 1,426 votes, Lundquist had 839, and Don Fox had 160 votes.

“I think getting out and knocking on the doors in the community is what put me over the top,” said Crawford. “While knocking on doors, I heard a resounding theme, that people want new blood and want a new perspective in our County. I would like to thank all my supporters-because without them, I couldn’t have got it done.”

From today’s Central Oregonian, a letter to the editor submitted by Greg Lynch, one of the most respected attorneys in Central Oregon.

Crawford will continue to make a positive difference.

To our Fellow Crook County Residents: April 25, 2010 Having lived in Crook County for more than 25 years, I have seen local politicians come and go. While it is certainly important to have a capable group of commissioners, it is also important to have a compatible group of people who can work together to accomplish our goals. We have seen this in our personal and work lives and it is not different in politics. The county court has been stymied by dissension and conflict. We need a constructive addition with a positive attitude. Please join me in support of Seth Crawford – his family has made a positive difference in Crook County for 3 generations and so will he.

Greg Lynch, Prineville

Found in Letters to the Editor at the Central Oregonian, April 28, 2010.

I would like everyone to know why I support Seth Crawford for Crook County Commissioner. Seth is a valuable member of our community. He has been visiting Prineville his entire life, and he values the community and family values that set Prineville apart from other rural communities. Seth has the conservative views needed to affect change in our conty. Seth is looking to improve our community by drawing more businesses into our county and by looking to reopen the forests for harvesting. If we are able to reopen the timber industry, our mills will have the work needed to bring back many of the laid of employees. Seth is committed to trying to find ways to combat our unemployment problems and return Crook County to the once thriving community that we all need.

Out of the three candidates running for this position, Seth is the only candidate that I or my family has met. Seth comes out to community events and supports our community. He makes efforts to visit the Chamber events and listen to what our business community is concerned about. Just the other day, even knowing that my family already supported his campaign, Seth took the time out of his door-to-door campaigning to speak with my husband and myself and see what concerns we may have with the county that he was unaware of, and how we felt he could address our concerns. Seth really seems to care what we voters are concerned about and how he can help represent this whole community, not just his supporters.

Thank you.

Beverly Timmer, Prineville

Tuesday, May 18 will soon be here. Getting informed can be difficult. I like talking to the candidates when possible. Reading their stances and goals can also be helpful. Of course, you have to hope they weren’t just filling you with “feel good” statements to get elected until their true agendas come out.

Meeting with candidates face-to-face is difficult. I met with Allen Alley, along with a handful of other conservatives, a few months ago. He seemed genuine, knowledgeable and up to the task. He didn’t layout his stances, though. He had attended a meeting with 26 republican Governors and ex-Governors. He was heeding their advice to not let his platform out all at once, giving his opponents too much material to use against him. That didn’t set well with me.

I haven’t talked to Chris Dudley, and probably won’t get an opportunity. He recently dodged the global warming question, and that’s a big strike against him.

I will be attending the Governor’s Candidate Forum Tuesday, April 20 at Crook County High School auditorium. (See Page 37 for details). The one I think best for the job has been attacked so severely by the media and unions that I’m not sure he could overcome that and get his message across to the uninformed voter. He is the only one that could make the hard choices and implement them to turn back our burgeoning Oregon government.

Mike McLane of Powell Butte is an easy choice for House District 55. He wants to get things done now. Not tomorrow. The other Mike hasn’t shown me much in fiscal responsibility, belt tightening or worrying about the common taxpayer with his stint as Mayor of Prineville.

County Commissioner choice is also easy for me. Lynn Lundquist has proven too liberal for me and a lot of others who were big supporters before we sent him over to Salem where he failed miserably as a conservative.

There are several places on the internet I will direct you to and you can make up your own mind. My vote is going to Seth Crawford in the primary.

http://robkremer.blogspot.com/2007/08/oregon-business-association.html

We simply cannot allow organizations like the Oregon “Business” Association, without challenge, to carry on the pretense that they speak for business in Oregon. They don’t. They are an organization funded by liberal businesses that push for liberal public policies. Just because they are funded by businesses doesn’t mean they advocate for the interests of business in Oregon. Rob Kremer said this. And if you read the entire page you will be enlightened further. Lynn Lundquist was president of the OBA.

http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com

Do a search for Lynn Lundquist and it will show that he donated $1,000 to John Edwards Presidential run. That’s a big strike for me. Hard to believe, isn’t it? … I couldn’t either. I found the next website to corroborate it.

http://upperleftcoast.blogspot.com/2007/07/source-of-that-oregon-campaign-money.html*

Now you can go to:

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/election/july-dec98/initiatives_8-3.html

to find this quote of Lynn’s. “The initiative system has now become almost government by the people, without the legislature hardly being a factor.” Oregon’s initiative system has proven very useful to taxpayers. That’s why they want to get rid of it. And … excuse me … I thought it was government by the people, for the people …

http://archive.acluor.org/news/news97spring.html

Here I found this quote on the Oregon ACLU website dating back to 1997.

“On the bright side, a number of proposals have been introduced that would help curb some of the worst abuses of the initiative process. House Speaker Lynn Lundquist has said that initiative reform is a personal priority on his agenda. We look forward to working with him and other legislators on this issue.”

Keep digging and you can find more … like this

http://leslemke.users2.50megs.com/ogoreport/ogoreport.htm

where Rep. Lynn Lundquist speaks in favor of Gun Control bill, H.B.2535 in 1999.

No, I think I will give Seth Crawford a chance. And, if he continues with politics and makes it to Speaker of the House in Oregon … I doubt if he gets ousted.

See you at the polls.
